Fantastic
just had a quick go with strife - much better- help works without crashing-mcguffin switch works- still having random "z_free : freed a pointer without zoneid crashes"- will let you know after further play.
Thankyou

After further play- observed the following:
1. game runs smoother - more doors and switches work and fewer : "z_free : freed a pointer without zoneid crashes" (do you need to know where these occur?).
2.Blackbird talks more frequently although sometimes too early ( e.g. she congratulates you for cutting off the hand of judge wolenik before you have done it )- this didn't happen in the last beta.
3.Spiders still don't hurt you- I never liked them anyway.
4.The medic's implant has no effect- i.e . no stamina upgrade - and the weapons trainer won't train you.
5.After blowing up the power crystal there is no recognition of this and so you are not given the next quest by macil.
You can play further into the game- very close to being fully playable- thanks again.

Yeh, what's the stack trace?

Many new line specials are implemented without quest check such as Blacbird's voice, in previous beta this line special didn't work at all.

Medic's and crystal's problems can be easely done with some hacks.

Any chance of uploading the sources for us lowly Linux users?

Ah never mind, just found the CVS on SF. You might publicise it a bit though!

Good job on the new version--it's much more playable now. As others have mentioned, Blackbird is more chatty (though not always at the right times), more doors and switches work, etc. It's now possible to complete the "cleaner" mission for the Mayor. Some thoughts:

- When you enter the castle for the big assault on the Programmer, everyone treats you as an enemy--including your own troops. I'm not sure why this is, but it's a very big problem.

- The "lobbing" behavior for the grenades is very strange: they go a long, long way, much further than they did in the original game or should in this one. I have to point the grenade launcher almost at the floor in order to lob at an enemy that isn't all the way across the map.

- A number of doors in the sewers don't appear to function correctly--some of them open prematurely, while others won't open at all. In particular there are some quest-blocking doors after you get the uniform for the Rat King that prevent you from proceeding with the next part of the mission. I'm sure these are all unimplemented/misinplemented quest linedefs, but I mention this for the sake of completeness.

A suggestion: when you put out a new beta version, could you let us know what we should be testing or looking out for, what sort of things you've changed? That way we don't have to keep annoying you with "nope, the weapons trainer still doesn't train you".

I'm doing a full release now. It doesn't have any improvements in Strife, it's just to make a complete release with this improved stuff and several other bug fixes.

Cool. Should I post any other Strife issues in Bug Reports, or wait until you have another beta to mess with?

Better wait for further releases since right now I won''t be updating it right now.

Janis
Any chance of just sneaking in the recognition of the power station and sewer completion quests with the next update?
Thanks

Yep, these might be the first things that I will do when I'll get back to Strife stuff.

Great
There should be more interest in Strife soon as it's now freely available as abandonware at http://underdogs.cjb.net/

Mmmm, yes and no. It's been on http://www.the-underdogs.org for ages. That's where many of us (including myself) got it. I assume it's another address for the same site. But maybe you bringing it up again will make people say "Hmmm, maybe I *should* try it out..." ;)

I think that people who have played the game appreciate it as abetter game. Doom , Hexen and Heretic are great games but with STRIFE you get real quests ( not just looking for a keycard) and much more interaction with game characters - not just killing them.

Janis
Just looking at the game walkthrough there are only about 15 main quests - with your next update ( as the first priority) could you get the game to recognise each quest completion and the issue of each new objective(preferably with voice implementation at the start of each new one) -starting from the completion of the power station quest?
This way even if switches and doors don't work the game can still be completed using noclip.
I appreciate that there may still be alot of other work to do with Strife but if this is done first the game will be completely playable.
Thanks

OK, I'll try to do this.
