Usepuzzleitem strange glitch

The 4th Class

Here's the story: 1) I have in my map a "spike (down)" thing whose special is usepuzzleitem 13 (the all-silver gear). 2) Before the player can even approach the spike, it activates, thus turning it into "spike (up)". 3) For some reason the usepuzzleitem script won't function on the spike unless you use the Big Gem on it. <!-- s:| --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_neutral.gif" alt=":|" title="Neutral" /><!-- s:| --> No matter what value I put for the item in the spike (I've tried all different puzzle items), it will only accept the Big Gem (incidentally with a numeric value of 1). Any thoughts? And I tried using the gear exclusively on the down spike, but it looks like since it's out-of-sight, the player can't activate it.
