Map compatibility between different Vavoom version

How high is compatibility between different Vavoom versions, i.e. if I make a map for the current Vavoom version, does it run with an older version? Will it run with a newer one? I've got some old Heretic maps (made for the original DOS version) I plan on pepping up somewhat with Vavoom, but only if they'll work with countless generations of new Vavoom versions. <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

Everything that is standard for a particular game will work in any version. For extra stuff everything should work with newer versions. i.e. all new thing types and line/sector specials will be not removed. The functionality can be extended but only in a way that is compatible with previous versions.

OK, so suppose I take my episode on [url:1o2lq01q]http://hells-surface.ravencommunity.net and make a "Vavoom Special Edition" with a couple of 3D floors and slopes at places I had them in my head back in '97 when I made the maps but couldn't put in, and throw in the new skybox concept to be able to take away some disturbing high walls where I never wanted one but had to becuz of engine limitations, and also make some areas larger (in the E2M1 what's in the map package is less than half the size of what I originally had but crashed all the time with visplane errors). Guess I do all that stuff, down to which Vavoom version will it be compatible? Are these all things that'll be compatible with any future versions for eternity? This episode has endured nearly 5 years in its current form (with the only addition of a .gwa file in 2000), and I don't really want to make an extended version that'll be obsolete in another 2 years.

<br>Slopes and 3D floors - version 1.7, skyboxes with script - 1.10. See version history in vavoom.txt to find in which version a feature was added.<br>

<br>Yes, map editing features are things that should stay for eternity.<br>

Sounds real good... <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) --> Once Scattered Evil is out, I'll jump my old Hell's Surface wadfile, take it apart, turn it upside down, and put it together in a way that'll be more like my vision half a decade ago...  :D

Great! Now what's the best place for it? How do you think, should it be on main home page or somewhere here on forums page?

??? what's the prob with the current location? Just give the link to anyone who wants to upload some stuff...<br><br>If you want the script to look better, just add some more HTML tags to the original file. If you want to implement the uploader into a new HTML page, you'll need to know which parts are the actual script and copy+paste them into the new file. Also, the file extension has to be .php for the script to work at all.<br><br>Let me know if you need any help, I'm here 24/7/365 (meaning I get the message within 24 hours, read it in a week and reply/solve the prob in a year). ;D

I'm not sure about YaBB, but in most messageboards you can configure a welcome message that's displayed on a certain forum, you could add the link there, plus on the Vavoom news page - which BTW I'd upate more often in your place, most ppl won't look into the forum and so they won't know about the beta versions and similar stuff. I could set up a simple news updater tool for you in which you just log in through a browser, put news title in a box, news text in another, click on "submit" and your news are automatically on your news page (script complete with archivating functions and such).
