How do I get skyboxes from the JDEP to work in Vavoom?

Good question. It should be a matter of writing SKYBOXES and MAPINFO scripts.

Could you try making your own skyboxes for Vavoom?

I have made them, but my site has been down for some time, I'm in the process of uploading them to my web space right now, it should be done in a few minutes, then I'll post a link to them .

OK, it took me some time to organize them and upload them to my site, but I'm done, here are some interesting links to Doom/Doom2/Heretic textures and skyboxes, I've also compiled and converted the UI packs from JDoom to be used on Vavoom, here I go: [list:2090wpc5]- Installation instructions for skyboxes - Doom Skyboxes - Doom2 Skyboxes - Heretic Skyboxes - Doom 1/2 Shared Textures - Doom2 Specific patches (Titlepic, intermission screen, etc.) - Doom1 Specific patches - Doom UI patches - Heretic Textures - Heretic UI patches[/list:u:2090wpc5]

Good job. Now if you create skyboxes for Hexen and Strife, that would be perfect.

I've got some nice textures for Hexen skyboxes, but I don't have much time to work with them right now, as for Strife, I didn't have those planned, but if you want I'll give it a try .

Yes please. Oh and could you make skyboxes for Final DOOM as well?

I don't see why not . When I have some more time I'll surely finish them all.

Ok, Firebrand packages are very useful! I've a question: i see that skyboxes images are in TGA format (like said in http://www.vavoom-engine.com/wiki/index ... s:Skyboxes ) Aren't PNG images supported? (like hires textures and ui images? )

It's just a matter of trying PNG format images , I'll try it and see what happens, right now I get some errors while starting maps with TGA format images something like: "Can't create texture x.TGA" and the skyboxes aren't displayed at all . I'll try changing them to PNG and see what happens. BTW, scen, you could add them to your ebuilds if you want .

Yesterday i've tried to convert skyboxes images to PNG format (changing also skyboxes.txt): all works very well! Now i must think some sort of "patching" process to apply without troubles the skyboxes in a Vavoom installation!

I don't know if that might work, but now that the latest version uses PK3s as data sources for the engine, you could create a wad0.wad with the SKYBOXES lump in it, then just copy it to the correct directory and try to play the game, it should be loaded correctly and you won't overwrite or modify anything .
