how do i use DHTP (texture pack)?

i followed the instructions from the wiki/forum post: Vavoom:- <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://doomtextures.freelanzer.com/vv-dhtp-20080808.pk3">http://doomtextures.freelanzer.com/vv-dhtp-20080808.pk3</a><!-- m --> How to use: In the command line "-file" specifies additional files. e.g. "-file /home/user/vavoom/vv-dhtp-20080808.pk3" however it doesn't seem to work, whether i use vavoom launcher or the shortcut/command line. i've renamed the pack as dhtp.pk3, i assume that's ok? command lines i've tried- C:\Games\Doom\vavoom\vavoom.exe -file /dhtp.pk3 C:\Games\Doom\vavoom\vavoom.exe -file C:\Games\Doom\vavoom\dhtp.pk3 "C:\Games\Doom\vavoom\vavoom.exe" -file C:\Games\Doom\vavoom\dhtp.pk3 C:\Games\Doom\vavoom\vavoom.exe -file c:/games/doom/vavoom/dhtp.pk3 and so forth

You have to extract it in Vavoom folder.

finally, that worked. however, in the first level of Doom 2, the two columns seem to have the old textures. i couldn't find the hires textures in the folder. is it possible that the author forgot it? can i make the texture?

actually, Doom 1 has a few original textures, too. this a bug?

hmm. it doesn't seem to be that there are missing textures, but rather some hi-res textures were not used within doom, mainly the wall textures. for example, in Doom 1, the first level. go through the first door, and on the ceiling you'll see computer displays. it's still the original doom textures, and yet i do have planet1.png in the doom1 folder of the pk3 file located in Doom/vavoom/basev/doom (which contains basepak.pk3, flats.pk3, and xwalls.pk3)

Put the PK3 file with doom1 specific textures inside the 'doom1' subdirectory in basev, if you have any doom2 specific PK3, placing it on the 'doom2' sudirectory should fix texture problems... and yes, the pack isn't completed yet.

hmm. in DHTP.pk3, there are the following folders- doom, doom1, doom2. i put xwalls.pk3 of doom1 in both doom and doom1 folders. there's still no difference. as far as i can tell, the wall textures are still unchanged (originals). only the ceiling and flats are hi-res.

The problem is the way the textures are packed, I've checked again, the xwalls.pk3 that is inside the 'doom' subdirectory has all the common textures and specific doom1 textures inside a doom1 folder inside the pk3 file. These textures should be placed inside the xwall.pk3 inside the 'doom1' folder, inside the pk3 file there should be a 'hirestex' folder and the textures should go there. The same applies for the rest of the doom games <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->. Hope this helps you out.

wait, start over. what do i have to do exactly? how do i re-pack a pk3 file?
