It would be cool, but it would be a performance killer, the game needs to calculate which parts of the map are "visible" to the light from it's position, if the light is of the size of the map, it would require several calculations, producing really long load times.

Not so much <!-- s;) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;) --> i tried a few times to make maps with some number of static lights immitating sunlight.. it haven't made the game slower (my computer is only 400hHz,192mb RAM,GeForce2 32mb video)

Vavoom now pre-renders some of the static light data, which makes things a bit more fast, but if the levels outside architecture is complicated enough, things could go a bit slow, believe me, I've done some test maps myself <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->.
