Download / unzip problem

Okay, I could be a little daft. But I tried downloading the latest v116_1_win.zip file, so I could play my game Strife, and for some reason it won't allow me to unzip anything. It just flashes by quickly, without actually unzipping anything. I'm using Izarc which is (i think) based off of 7zip's source for the unzipping, and haven't ever had any problems with zipping or unzipping anything with it. I could try using the trial version of Winzip to see if that may help, but I wanted to run this by you all first. Thanks Joe

Can you open the zip file?

Yeah, I can open the zip file, and it displays all of the data. However when I highlight all the data, and click "extract selected" it errors off on one of the WAD files. If I recreate the file structure exactly and extract each file independantly I get no errors, but all of the wad files are smaller than reported in the original zip files. I guess I could attempt to download from different sourceforge mirrors as well... couldn't hurt to try.

Okay I think I tried too many different things at once, 'cause did get a file extracted (here at work). I downloaded it from Lausanne, Switzerland instead of what I think was Reston, VA. Then I used winzip to extract it, and it worked. Did you perhaps use the Compression of "Maximum (Enhanced deflate)" from winzip? I know that compression isn't widely compatable with other compression programs. Joe

I used PowerArchiver at Maximal compression, but even the open source unzip utility unzips them fine.

It could be a problem with the program you used to extract the files.

I dragged out my old winzip 7.0 here at the house and it extracted the data. It extracted them without hesitation. Perhaps it was izarc after all. Now I just have to figure out how to actually execute the game

Well, just install it on the same directory where you have your IWAD files (this is, the main data files for Doom, Heretic, Hexen or Strife), it can be any of them (Doom.wad, Heretic.wad, Hexen.wad, Strife1.wad), even shareware versions work with it, I think. Just run the launcher and select the desired game you wish to play and you are done! If you have any more questions post them here without hesitation, we will try to help you out .

Don't forget to have a cup of coffee/hot tea while you sit and watch the maps get GLVIS'd. It can't be aborted (running through vavoom)
