Not to mention what was suggested above for DOOM would be legally possible for Raven's games, Heretic and Hexen. As long as they need you to have the original wadfile (i.e. it won't run if you don't have the original game), you can do anything you want with the stuff (this is official from Raven Software).

I indeed had the idea to make a "Heretic: Resurrection" (or whatever name) that'd use Vavoom to remake the original Heretic maps into what they most probably were in the designer's minds (like real roofs, more natural-looking caves etc.), using 3D models, adding all tracks in MP3 or similar format (all Heretic tracks are already available in MP3 on the web, converted by Ann Seidhe Priest if I remember his name right which I probably don't). If such a task would be undertaken, another of my ideas I had for 5 years or so now could be implemented as well, intelligent spawning on higher skill levels, similar to that of Hexen, just with stronger monsters. You see, Heretic on skill 5 is just not difficult enough for hardcore gamers, and if you use respawn from the command line option, it will be too difficult for anyone. As an example, on E2M1, there should be a couple of new WereDragons every time you leave the cave complex after having cleared it out first. And a couple of new gargoyles in the start open area every time you return there from one of the cave complexes.
