[Not a bug] [1.18] Heretic Imp Bug

The Imps (those winged gargoyle like things) seem to attack each other because of friendly fire. Even though they have a melee attack, their dash attack may result into bump another Imp, which results in them attacking each other. This should not occur. Imps (and probably all monsters in Heretic) follow the general Doom rule for responding to friendly fire. Monsters are not able to hurt each other of the same type, however they will attack and hurt another monster of a different type because of their friendly fire.

Almost true, but there's a catch. What they do is choose a primary target. I believe if you activate them by waking them up, you are automatically the primary target. If the primary target dies, then they will attack the next thing that attacked them. So if you are in a room ful of imps, and they kill you, they will then kill each other. So technically the can attack other monsters of the same type, but only after disposing of you.

I've checked this against vanilla Heretic.. and I see your point. The bug here is that they attack each other while you are not dead.

Maybe if you make them check which actor they bump with and adding a check, if the actor is the same kind of the garoyle, the attack won't do any damage, the same goes for the strife soldiers and enemies in the other bug threads.

Actually, the friendly fire as detailed in Strife+Heretic can hurt actors of the same type. The difference is that in Heretic, the player must die first. In Strife, actors don't intentionally attack each other but can get hit by their own friendly fire.

No, it should be like that.

They CAN hurt the same type. The only exception is missiles that won't hurt the same type.
