[Implemented] Flats

Hey, I know this is from Doom's original engine, but do you Janis see anything that could be done to at least enlarge the flat "resolution" of 64X64 pixels, and it's fixed pattern? I only ask because there are work done for textures but the flats seems to be forgotten by most improvement engine? <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( -->

I thought about that a lot too earlier on, it's really limiting things in some cases. OTOH in Vavoom you can always use very slightly sloped "floors" which are even at a one pixel elevation already "walls" for the engine, meaning you can put any size of textures on them (or am I mistaken)?

I don't really know if this is what you mean Mago, but Vavoom supports Hi-Res flats & textures in .png format, maybe that can be another solution, if you mean the texture resolution, there are engines that support texture scaling but, again, I don't know if Vavoom does, though.

You can use wall textures on floors and ceilings. AFAIK in DoomBuilder there's an option that enables mixing of wall textures and flats. I don't know about other editors, perhaps you'll have to enter the texture name manually.

Does this means I can have 128x128 pixels graphics as flats?

Sure you can!
