[Fixed] Strafing, running and walking issues

Fri, 06 Jan 2006 05:26:21

I wasn't really sure whether this should go in Feature Suggestions or here, as the topic is a little about both... Strafing with the mouse - it's impossible to get it to go any faster than walking speed. I know this one's a bug, as in the original Doom, you could use the mouse to strafe all the way up to running speed. AutoRun stuff - even with it turned off, using , and . to strafe will cause you to strafe at running speed. I imagine that's a bug too, since it doesn't seem to make any sense. Also, when AutoRun is on, shouldn't holding Shift make you walk? Since AutoRun wasn't in the original Doom, I guess this one would be a feature suggestion (although it could be a bug). I think that about covers it. <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

And I was also thinking about turning off jumping ability in Doom/Doom2/Heretic, at least when playing original levels. The problem is that by jumping you may get into areas where you should not be due authors' idea, or even take a shortcut, missing some section of a level.

Hmm... I also have a problem with run/walk. In both Heretic and Strife (the only games I've tried so far) there is no change at all in movement speed when I hit the run button. Edit: nvm, I just figured out that for some reason autorun is turned on by default when the game starts, when i turn it off the run/walk speeds work normally
