[1.31] (Hexen) strength of weapons has changed

In vanilla Hexen and in other source ports, Sapphire Wand (mage's first - not worst - weapon) takes about 7 shots to kill an ettin. However, in Vavoom, it takes 3 or 4, regardless of difficulty level. Something is wrong. This is as strong as fighter's fists, yet with more range, rate of fire, and railgun effect. The version of vavoom I'm running is windows version, through wine. I managed to compile Vavoom without launcher, but I have problems enabling things like Opengl and can't figure out how to configure Allegro for sound.

Try to compile against SDL.

Ok, to keep my posts constructive: Ripping projectiles deal very high damage total, because they deal damage for each tic they spend inside a monster. This works as expected I think. But if such a projectile deals 6d8 damage per tic, it ends up very high. Even if projectile speed is over 7000. It is possible to kill an ettin with a single hit from the wand !!* I did some playtesting, and it seems that if I reduce damage from 6 to 2 the effect is most similar to vanilla Hexen. Ettin dies in 6-8 hits, typically 7. ----------------------------------- Another unwanted Hexen balance change: chaos serpents now easily survive 2 direct hits from Fighter flechette. In vanilla, they would never survive 2 direct hits.

Another undocumented change: Arc of Death seems to deal quite a bit more damage. In vanilla it's not uncommon for an ettin to survive Arc of Death. In Vavoom, even chaos serpents very rarely survive it.
