[Implemented] graphic launcher (VLaunch) rewritten in a port

Hi, i think it would be nice if the actual graphic launcher for Vavoom, called VLaunch, that currently exists only for Windows platforms, could be rewritten using some "portable"/cross-platform, like (for example) [list:2hgj1jlo] [*:2hgj1jlo]QT[/*:m:2hgj1jlo] [*:2hgj1jlo]GTK+[/*:m:2hgj1jlo] [*:2hgj1jlo]FLTK[/*:m:2hgj1jlo] [*:2hgj1jlo]...[/*:m:2hgj1jlo][/list:u:2hgj1jlo] so it can be used also on other OS (like Linux, MacOS,FreeBSD, etc.) I would like to take care of this, but currently my programming skills are poor (and i haven't so much free time to learn about them ) In future, maybe... Is it an accettable idea, for you?

Yes, I've been thinking about this for some time now.

Cool I'll try it ASAP

Wow, it looks pretty good click here Only the fonts seems to be too big, as you can see. I'll look into if it's a configuration issue of my own system. In the meantime.... any suggestion to fix this annoyance?

Currently it's a direct rewrite of the old launcher. That's why it looks correct on Windows but not when using GTK+.

Ok, the problem was partially in my system configuration. The GTK applications used a too large font; reducing it (in my case, Arial - 7 seems to fix the problem. [img:350kuhjs]http://img484.imageshack.us/img484/5486/vlaunchlinux2yg6.th.png[/img:350kuhjs] A solution to this behaviour would be to set a fixed font size directly in vlaunch code, so the window visualization is indipendent from user's system configuration. Another thing to fix: the IP Address: and Other options StaticText objects have a too small horizontal size, causing the wrap of label: see this explanatory snapshot [img:350kuhjs]http://img369.imageshack.us/img369/4719/vlaunchlinux3qs5.th.png[/img:350kuhjs] Enlarging the horizontal size of these objects solves the problem.

[quote="Janis Legzdinsh":25x6kloa]Did some improvements, check it out. Yeah, the tabs are very useful and good for launcher usability. (i link a snapshot for example, so other users that can't try it by himself have the chance to follow the launche improvements ) [img:25x6kloa]http://img398.imageshack.us/img398/9671/vlaunchanimationvh4.th.gif[/img:25x6kloa] But now i've another request (sorry Janis if i stress you:P ): i've seen that when i start a Vavoom session but it quit with errors for any reason (e.g. i start with -tnt but tnt.wad is not present in vavoom game dir), it doesn't show or popup any message. I think it would be useful adding a box that shows the console messages echoed by vavoom, so it's easier to figure out what is happened. This is an example mock-up", don't rely on this too much, i'm not a good graphic artist [img:25x6kloa]http://img459.imageshack.us/img459/3792/vlaunchlinux5ur0.th.png[/img:25x6kloa] What do you think about that? Another thing: i've seen that the "Renderer" menu has always the "Direct3D" item, but in non-Windows environments it's useless. Can you remove o disable it when vlaunch runs on those types of OS? [EDIT] Another trivial request: is it possible to make available the Vlaunch icon also in another format (not only in .ico), for example PNG or XPM? Thanks [/EDIT]

here ya go... original icon in png and xpm at 32x32 and 16x16, plus a pretty faithful recreation in svg =) vavoom_icons.zip ps - did the conversions using the GIMP in about two minutes it handles .ico files very nicely (imports each image in the icon into a separate layer) pps - ever looked at an XPM in a text editor? pretty interesting
